Social Media Do’s and Don’t’s

PERMISSIBLE

  • It is permissible to follow or friend a prospective student-athlete (PSA) at any age.
  • It is permissible to direct tweet or message a PSA beginning on September 1st of the PSA’s junior year.
  • Once a PSA signs an NLI, a coach may publically post or tweet at the PSA’s handle.  No restrictions on what can be said about the PSA at this point.

NOT PERMISSIBLE

  • An athletics staff member may not communicate (private tweet or private message) with a PSA until September 1st of the PSA’s junior year.
  • An athletics staff member may not comment on a PSA until they sign a NLI.
  • An athletics staff member may not retweet any comment from the PSA or about the PSA from a third source.

As a reminder, student-athletes may receive medical treatment and attend academic appointments on a required day off. These activities do not count toward daily or weekly hour limits (CARA).

Reminder: Student-athletes may not receive payment from any source for his/her complimentary admissions and may not exchange or assign them for any item of value. Also, family members and friends who have been assigned tickets may not sell or exchange them either!

With the NFL season kicking off this week, remember that all sports wagering activities are prohibited for all student-athletes and UGA Athletics Staff. This includes fantasy football, survivor pools, etc.
